The good: Like many PDF books, it is searchable. Clicking on the table of contents will take you to the desired section. Edit: After reading another review, I found out there used to be a table of contents for each section. Like the previous reviewer stated, this no longer exists. The bad: You pay the extra money for the handbook because it is supposed to be more explanatory and offer more pictures to highlight what is being discussed; however, this was minimal in the book.
I purchased this book because it has the NFPA stamp on it, but I think a little bit more effort needs to be placed in the handbook. It is searchable, national electrical code 2014 handbook pdf free download it is often confusing to determine what section you are in. No effort was made into making the search portion user friendly. You literally have to page back, which is extremely time consuming, to determine what section you are in.
You could find out you are in a section about swimming pools or residential housing, when you want to be in the industrial building section. Overall, I feel that more effort needs to be placed in making this book user friendly for someone using the PDF version, and the handbook needs better and more illustrations. almost excellent, as I wish it had more interpretations sometimes, but you can't find a better book.
Some others code handbooks I've bought in the past don't include all the code text, but only what they interpret.
Than means flipping from the code to the interpretation and back again, which is stupid as far as I am concerned. I only need to buy one book and not flip between two books to read a section completely. I do mostly solar installations and am a retired building official.

I will need a copy of the plain code for that. I really like having the kindle version access from my phone or iPad when in the field. This is a great reference book. Learning the new standards is fairly straightforward. Searching terms and learning national electrical code 2014 handbook pdf free download rules and installations is easy as you can cross-reference to diagrams and articles within the book using links within the kindle e-reader book.
This book was very helpful in understanding new rules for wiring. It does require one to understand calculations and the ability to do your own calculations but the tables are there for reference and easy to find. For someone learning I had to purchase some other books to understand some of the calculations but the book explained the need for doing temperature, expansion and wire calculations.
I gave this book 3 stars because for a beginner it is somewhat difficult to remember all the codes and learn the rules but for someone who is familiar with previous codes and rules it offers an easy way to learn the new rules.
